Phuket Reopens Its Doors to Fully-Vaccinated Tourists

If you haven’t heard already, tourists are now able to explore Phuket without quarantine after testing negative for Covid-19 upon arrival.

The limited reopening termed the “Phuket Sandbox” is Thailand’s field test to help the economy recover after Covid-19 brought the tourism industry to a halt for more than a year.

If you are wondering about Malaysia’s current risk status, it is listed as “moderate restrictions” (as of 1st of July 2021), which means it’s still possible to travel if you will be able to show proof of vaccination of more than 14 days.

So for those of you who have been fully-vaccinated, are you ready to book the tickets?

Before you proceed, it’s advisable for you to get a prior understanding of the general information of the Phuket Sandbox programme – which includes entry requirements, on-arrival procedures, hygiene measures, and FAQs here.

Now that you’re all geared up for your overseas holiday after a long gap, let us enlighten you on what you can do in Phuket Sandbox, with small trade-offs of course.

1) Accommodation
Upon your arrival in Phuket, it’s mandatory to stay at SHA Plus Hotel for the first 7 days of your trip. Residing in a private residence is strictly not allowed for COVID-19 control purposes.

2) While in Phuket
Masks are required to be worn at all times in public areas and in any vehicle with two or more people travelling. Remember to follow DMHTT precautions:

D – Distancing

M – Mask wearing

H – Handwashing

T – Testing for COVID-19

T – Temperature check (Thai Cha Na)

3) Covid-19 Test
The number of Covid-19 tests you need to take will be determined on the duration of your stay. Do take note that COVID-19 testing is at travellers’ own expense and all required testing must be prepaid through your hotels.

Now the coast is almost clear! Phuket is undoubtedly one of the best places to visit on earth, and we’re not even exaggerating. It has popular beaches (yes we’re talking about Patong Beach & Kamala Beach), the lip-smacking seafood dishes at Kusuma Seafood Restaurant, fantastic spots for diving and snorkeling, kid-friendly activities, shopping at Bangla Road and a whole lot more!

Guess what else? One of the best elements of Phuket Sandbox is that after you have completed your 14-days stay in Phuket, you can wander off to any part of Thailand you desire. Yes, no kidding!

It may take a while for most of us to start travelling again, but let’s remain optimistic and hope things will start looking up again in days to come. Till then, stay safe, take care of yourself and your loved ones.
